The optical smoke detector is used in a smoke and heat exhaust system in multi-occupancy housing. It is used to detect and report the presence of smoke.

The smoke detector features a photo-electric sensor which detects the presence of smoke. In case of fire, the sensor alerts the smoke exhaust control panel and trips an audible alarm.
